Recently, the generator-terminal damping suppression project for the 2×500MW units at Datang Shentou Second Power Plant (hereinafter referred to as Shen'er Power Plant) successfully completed its field tests and was successfully commissioned. The torsional stress response protection device (TSR) and generator-terminal damping suppression device for the project were provided by Sifang Automation. This project is the first demonstration project in China for oscillation mitigation targeting large-scale imported generators and also represents the largest (30MVA) individual generator capacity project for subsynchronous oscillation suppression in China to date.
Shen'er Power Plant was established in 2002, with its power generation units being 500,000 kW conventional coal-fired power generation units produced in the former Czechoslovakia. The units were officially commissioned for commercial operation on July 1, 2005.
Shen'er Power Plant faces the risk of subsynchronous resonance under various operating modes, which could, in severe cases, cause damage to the generator's shaft system. Sifang Automation adopted the generator-terminal damping suppression solution, realizing flexible control of shaft torsional vibration through advanced technologies such as adaptive frequency identification, feedforward control, and dynamic gain adjustment.
The successful commissioning of this project strongly demonstrates that Sifang Automation's self-developed generator-terminal damping suppression product has the capability to address severe subsynchronous oscillation issues in domestic and international generators.
